Relaxation massage at a gentler pace
Relaxation massage keeps the strokes slow and the pressure easy to live with. It overlaps with Swedish massage, and it leaves out the busier changes of technique.
What the session involves
You are draped, and oil or lotion is used so the hands do not drag. The practitioner moves in longer, quieter passes and spends less time switching tools or speeds. The point is comfort you can stay with, not a tour of every method.
Scalp, face, hands, and feet can be included if you want them and if time allows. They can also be left out. Say which before the session, especially if you dislike having your feet or face touched.
The room is kept simple. Music, if any is used, should be low enough that you can still speak. You can ask for silence.
Who may want this session
Choose relaxation massage if you want an unhurried hour more than you want a single tight muscle addressed. It is a fair first massage. It is also a fair request if firmer work has left you sore in the past.
If you want the practitioner to stay on one stubborn area with slower, heavier pressure, deep tissue is the clearer request. If you want the classic mix of gliding and kneading, read Swedish massage. Swedish relaxation massage is a phrase people use for the gentler end of Swedish work. On this site the relaxation session is its own request so the pace is agreed in advance.
Feeling calmer afterward is something some people report. The session is not a treatment for stress, insomnia, or anxiety.
Session length
A shorter visit can still be worthwhile if the pace stays unhurried, but very short appointments leave little time to settle. Ask for the length you want. Nothing on this page is a published duration.

What to expect
The check-in is the same as other sessions: pressure, areas, and draping. You may be asked less often about “the knot” and more often whether the pace is right. You can doze. You will be woken gently when it is time to turn or to finish.
You should leave able to dress and walk out. If you feel lightheaded, sit for a minute and say so. That is a reason to pause, not a result the studio advertises.
How to prepare
Leave extra time so you are not rushing onto the table. Skip strong perfume if you can. Eat lightly. If you are ill, reschedule once a time exists. A relaxation session is a poor idea with a fever.
Practical notes
Relaxation massage does not use hot stones unless you asked for a hot stone session instead. It does not include scraping, cupping, or devices. Those are not services listed here.
You can switch a future request to Swedish or deep tissue if this pace was not what you wanted. Say that in the next inquiry.

Questions
How is relaxation massage different from Swedish massage?
Both can use oil and long strokes. A relaxation session is planned around a slower pace and gentler to moderate pressure, with fewer changes of technique. Swedish massage uses a wider set of strokes and can feel more varied.
Is relaxation massage only for stress?
People request it when they want a quiet, comfortable session. Feeling more at ease afterward is common for some guests and is not a treatment for stress, anxiety, or any medical condition.
Will the pressure be too light?
Pressure is agreed at the start and can be changed. Gentle does not have to mean vague. If you want firmer work in one area, say so, or consider a deep tissue session instead.
What should I wear?
You undress to your comfort level and lie under a sheet. The areas being worked are uncovered, and the rest of the body stays draped. You can leave on as much clothing as you want and still receive work where the skin or clothing allows.
